2026 MUSTO IQFOIL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS: LYONS BACK ON TOP AS STEINBERG STRENGTHENS HER LEAD IN WEYMOUTH AND PORTLAND
Strong westerly winds and challenging chop deliver four Course Races as the battle intensifies ahead of the final day of qualification
Weymouth, Great Britain – September 10, 2026 – Weymouth showed its tougher side on Day 4 of the 2026 MUSTO iQFOiL World Championships, with grey skies, a strong westerly breeze well above 15 knots and a solid chop providing a demanding racecourse for the 186 athletes competing for the world titles.
After Wednesday’s lighter and highly tactical Sprint Slalom, the Race Committee switched back to Course Racing, making the most of the strong breeze to complete four races for both the Men’s and Women’s fleets, alternating throughout a full day on the water.
In the Women’s fleet, Tamar Steinberg (ISR) once again confirmed her remarkable form. The reigning European Champion added three more race wins to her scorecard today, finishing 12-1-2-1 and extending her advantage at the top of the standings to 44 net points. Behind her, Sharon Kantor (ISR)climbed from third to second overall on 75 points, giving Israel the top two positions with one day of qualification remaining. Racing on home waters, Islay Watson (GBR) holds onto third with 101 points, while 15-year-old Medea Falcioni (ITA) remains close behind in fourth on 110. After occupying second place through the first three days, Stella Bilger (AUS) had a more difficult day and drops to fifth overall.
The Men’s fleet produced more surprises and another change at the top. Noah Lyons (USA) regained the overall lead with a strong opening sequence of 4-2-4 before a UFD in the final race, which becomes one of his discarded scores. The American now leads on 36 net points, but the fight remains extremely tight. Johan Søe (DEN) moves into second, just five points behind on 41, while Nicolas Goyard (FRA) was one of the standout performers of the day. The Frenchman scored back-to-back wins in the middle of today’s series to climb into third overall on 46 points. Luuc van Opzeeland (NED) remains firmly in contention in fourth on 48, while yesterday’s leader Yoav Omer (ISR) drops to fifth on 66.
With four days complete, the championship now enters its decisive phase. Friday will be the final opportunity to shape the standings and secure a place in Saturday’s Medal Series, with every point becoming increasingly valuable as the top ten in each fleet fight to keep their World Championship hopes alive.
The action from Weymouth and Portland continues live tomorrow, Friday September 11, before the world titles are decided in Saturday’s Medal Series.

2026 MUSTO IQFOIL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS: OMER TAKES THE LEAD AS SPRINT SLALOM SHAKES UP THE STANDINGS IN WEYMOUTH AND PORTLAND
Steinberg holds firm at the top of the women’s fleet, while four Sprint Slalom races bring new names into contention on Day 3
Weymouth, Great Britain – September 9, 2026 – A lighter and more unpredictable breeze brought another change of pace to the 2026 MUSTO iQFOiL World Championshipstoday in Weymouth and Portland, where both the Men’s and Women’s fleets completed four Sprint Slalom races in tricky, shifty and gusty conditions.
With the forecast suggesting the wind would become progressively lighter during the afternoon, Principal Race Officer Ewa Jodlowska opted for an early start at 11:00. The decision paid off, with the Race Committee making the most of a 7–12 knot breeze to complete the full four-race program on the first day of the Final Series for both fleets before conditions deteriorated.
After the stronger winds and four Course Races of Day 2, today required a completely different approach. The compact Sprint Slalom format put a premium on acceleration, positioning and clean manoeuvres, while significant variations in both wind direction and pressure meant opportunities, and potential losses, came quickly.
In the Women’s fleet, Tamar Steinberg (ISR) continues to lead after another solid day. The reigning European Champion started the Worlds with four consecutive wins and added another bullet yesterday; today, despite the less predictable Slalom conditions, she did enough at the beginning of the Championship to maintain a clear advantage with 47 net points. Stella Bilger (AUS)remains second on 61 points, while Sharon Kantor (ISR) produced a remarkably consistent Slalom series, with three third places followed by a fifth, to climb into third overall on 62. 15-year-old Medea Falcioni (ITA), who impressed with a race win yesterday, remains firmly in contention in fourth, just three points behind Kantor, while home sailor Islay Watson (GBR) sits fifth.
The Men’s fleet saw a bigger shake-up at the top. After Noah Lyons’ two Course Race victories had propelled him into the lead on Day 2, Yoav Omer (ISR) made the most of today’s Sprint Slalom conditions to move into first overall. Omer now leads with 25 net points, just one ahead of Noah Lyons (USA)on 26. Johan Søe (DEN) is another single point back in third on 27 after finishing the day with back-to-back race wins, making the battle at the front exceptionally tight. Reigning European Champion Luuc van Opzeeland (NED)is fourth on 33 points, while RS:X Olympic Champion Kiran Badloe (NED)has moved into the provisional top five.
Three days into the championship, Weymouth and Portland has already delivered a broad range of conditions and racing formats, from Upwind Sprints on the opening day to strong-wind Course Racing and now light-wind Sprint Slalom. With the standings tightening and the championship moving into its decisive second half, consistency across formats is becoming increasingly important.
From tomorrow, Thursday September 10, the action will also be available to watch live, with coverage continuing on Friday and through the Medal Series on Saturday, September 12.

2026 MUSTO IQFOIL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS:
LYONS TAKES THE LEAD AS STRONG WINDS TEST THE FLEET IN WEYMOUTH AND PORTLAND
Four Course Races shake up the men’s standings, while Tamar Steinberg holds firm at the top of the women’s fleet on the last day of the Qualification Series
Weymouth, Great Britain – September 8, 2026 – Strong winds brought a complete change of pace to Day 2 of the 2026 MUSTO iQFOiL World Championships in Weymouth and Portland, with both fleets completing four Course Races in demanding conditions.
After Monday’s opening program of Upwind Sprints and Course Racing, today put a different set of skills to the test. With stronger breeze across the racecourse, speed, control and tactical decision-making became increasingly important as the world’s best Olympic windsurfers battled through four full Course Races on the last day of the Qualification Series.
In the Women’s fleet, Tamar Steinberg (ISR) remains firmly in control of the championship. The reigning European Champion, who opened the Worlds yesterday with four consecutive victories, added another race win today and retained the overall lead after eight races. Stella Bilger (AUS) also held onto second place after another strong day, while Britain’s Islay Watson (GBR) moved into third to complete the provisional podium on home waters.
One of the standout performances of the day came from Medea Falcioni (ITA). The 15-year-old Italian claimed a race victory against the world-class senior fleet and climbed to fifth overall, putting herself firmly among the leading contenders after two days of racing.
The Men’s fleet saw a more significant reshuffle at the top of the standings. Noah Lyons (USA) produced the performance of the day, winning two of the four Course Races to surge into the overall lead. His dominant scoreline moved him ahead of Nicolas Goyard (FRA), who climbed one position to second overall after another consistent day.
Day 1 leader and reigning European Champion Luuc van Opzeeland (NED) slipped to third but remains well within striking distance as the championship heads deeper into the Qualification Series.
After two very different days on the water, Weymouth and Portland has already shown the range of conditions that has made it one of the world’s great Olympic sailing venues. With plenty of racing still ahead and the battle at the top intensifying in both fleets, the 2026 MUSTO iQFOiL World Championships continue tomorrow with the fleets split in Gold and Silver for the Final Series.
