NO WIND, NO RACING ON DAY 5 AT THE IQFOIL EUROPEANS

Top 10 confirmed for tomorrow’s Medal Series showdown in Sferracavallo

Sferracavallo, Palermo – November 29, 2025 – The penultimate day of the 2025 iQFOiL European Championship in Sferracavallo brought frustration and waiting as light and unstable wind conditions made racing impossible. As the forecast had been saying for a couple of days, the breeze never settled on the Gulf of Palermo, and no races could be sailed across any fleet.

As a result, the rankings from last night’s final day of the Qualification Series stand, and the top ten athletes in both the Men’s and Women’s categories have officially qualified for tomorrow’s high-stakes Medal Series, which will determine the 2025 European Champions.

The Medal Series unfolds in three stages: Quarter-Final, Semi-Final, and Grand Final. Athletes ranked sixth to tenth will battle it out in the Quarter-Final, with the top two advancing to the Semi-Final, where they will join those ranked third, fourth and fifth. The Grand Final features the top two athletes from the Opening Series, plus the best two from the Semi-Final. Importantly, the top two from tonight’s leaderboard will carry one match point into the Final. The first athlete to score two match points will be crowned European Champion.

    Men’s Top 10 - Provisional

    1. Nicolas Goyard (FRA)

    2. Finn Hawkins (GBR)

    3. Tom Reuveny (ISR)

    4. Pawel Tarnowski (POL)

    5. Luuc van Opzeeland (NED)

    6. Andy Brown (GBR)

    7. Luca Di Tomassi (ITA)

    8. Leonardo Tomasini (U23) (ITA)

    9. Federico Alan Pilloni (U23) (ITA)

    10. Johan Bornemann Søe (U23) (DEN)

    Women’s Top 10 - Provisional

    1. Emma Wilson (GBR)

    2. Daniela Peleg (U23) (ISR)

    3. Marta Maggetti (ITA)

    4. Tamar Steinberg (U23) (ISR)

    5. Palma Čargo (CRO)

    6. Anastasiya Valkevich (POL)

    7. Maya Gysler (U23) (NOR)

    8. Sara Wennekes (NED)

    9. Kristýna Piňosová (U23) (CZE)

    10. Medea Falcioni (U23) (ITA)

With a stellar lineup set for Saturday’s Medal Series, all eyes are now on Sferracavallo for a thrilling final day. The wind forecast seems reassuring, but the stakes couldn’t be higher. The champions of Europe will soon be crowned.

DAY 3 AT THE iQFOiL EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS: A PROMISING START, THEN STORMS INTERRUPT THE ACTION
Weather turns tricky in Sferracavallo as only one Men’s race is completed

Sferracavallo, Palermo – November 26, 2025 – Day 3 of the iQFOiL Senior European Championship at Circolo Velico Sferracavallo started with high hopes as sunshine, a warm breeze, and a building south-westerly wind greeted the athletes. The Race Committee followed the scheduled plan, sending the Women’s fleet on the water for the 10:30 start and the Men’s Gold fleet shortly after for a 10:45 start.

Conditions looked promising enough to kick off Slalom races. The Men’s fleet managed to complete one race, divided into four heats, in winds averaging around 8 knots. Unfortunately, the Women’s races could not be even started.

Soon after, a rainstorm passed through the area, earlier than forecasted, forcing the Race Committee to suspend racing. For safety reasons, all fleets were sent ashore. Despite brief clearing in the weather later in the afternoon, the wind failed to return, and with more storms visible on the radar, Principal Race Officer Ewa Jodlowska made the call to hoist the AP over A flag at 15:30, officially ending the day’s program.

With the single Men’s Slalom race added to the overall rankings, France’s Nicolas Goyard now moves into the top spot. He is followed by Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medalist Luuc van Opzeeland (NED), and reigning World Champion Andy Brown (GBR), making for an exciting leaderboard heading into the second half of the championship.

The hope now shifts to more stable conditions over the next three days, as athletes prepare to return to the water with renewed determination and the European title still wide open.

SUN AND SPEED: FULL DAY OF RACING AT iQFOiL EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS IN SFERRACAVALLO
Strong breeze and tight racing on Day 2 in Sicily

Sferracavallo, Palermo – November 25, 2025 – After a slow start on Day 1, conditions at the 2025 iQFOiL Senior European Championship came to life today in Sferracavallo. With sunshine and a solid breeze filling in across the racecourse, all fleets were able to complete five full course races, marking the first major shake-up in the standings.

In the Men’s fleet, Olympic Champion Tom Reuveny showed consistency across the board and sits still in the top spot overall. Hot on his heels is Great Britain’s Finn Hawkins, who delivered two standout race wins to secure second place in the provisional rankings.

“I won two races today, had two other good ones and one bad. It was windy out there, shifty and gusty, but it was a lot of fun and the racing was tight”, commented Finn Hawkings.

Following closely behind are France’s Nicolas Goyard in third and Britain’s reigning World Champion Andy Brown in fourth, both known for their tactical depth and racing prowess.

In the Women’s fleet, Olympic bronze medalist, and reigning World Champion, Emma Wilson (GBR) was the star of the day. With three race wins to her name, she now leads the overall standings after six races. Dutch rider Sara Wennekes followed up with a rock-solid performance and sits in second overall.

“Today we had a super good day. I'm happy we finished five races. I progressed over the day, trying to get this tricky wind, I get the feeling with the tricky wind, and I'm super happy and ready for more races the rest of the week”, said Sanna Wennekes.

With the sun shining and the leaderboard tightening, Day 2 delivered everything the sailors and fans had hoped for. And with more wind in the forecast, the competition is just heating up in Sicily.

Racing continues tomorrow with more racing on the schedule as the battle for the European title intensifies.

    .....

LIGHT WINDS, BIG NAMES: iQFOiL EUROPEANS KICK OFF IN SICILY
One race for each fleet with the young talents emerging since the early hours.

Sferracavallo, Palermo – November 24, 2025 – The 2025 iQFOiL Senior European Championship officially began today on the stunning Sicilian coast of Sferracavallo, with over 140 athletes from 35 nations lining up for a shot at the continental title.

Hosted by Circolo Velico Sferracavallo in partnership with the Italian Sailing Federation and the International iQFOiL Class Association, the event promises a week of high-speed foiling, intense rivalries, and elite competition in one of Italy’s most scenic sailing venues.

Expectations were high across the fleet as competitors headed out for the first day of racing. With light but promising conditions early on, both the Men’s and Women’s fleets managed to complete one race each before the wind began to shift and fade, forcing the race committee to call it a day.

In the Men’s fleet, Frenchman Nicolas Goyard (FRA) opened his championship campaign in style, securing the first bullet of the event and topping the rankings after Day 1. Behind him the Italian U23 Manolo Modena and Rytis Jasiunas (LTU). The other battery of the men’s fleet was won by Olympic Champion Tom Reuveny, who also made a strong opening statement despite the unpredictable breeze, in second Nicolò Renna (ITA), bronze medalist at the 2025 Worlds in Aarhus, and in third the reigning European Champion Paweł Tarnowski (POL).

“Today we did just one race for the blue fleet and also for the yellow fleet. It was a little shifty but it was fun and I am pleased to have finished second. Let's hope for some more action tomorrow”, commented Nicolò Renna (ITA).

In the Women’s fleet, Daniela Peleg claimed the day’s only race win, with Germany’s Theresa Steinlein close behind in second and Sara Wennekes (NED) in third.

“We just did one race, but we had very nice waves and some gusty winds, so it was very fun. I was leading until the last gate, and then I lost it because I didn’t see a gust. It is a bit annoying to not win, but I know I can be there, and I'm very looking forward for the next days”, commented Theresa Steinlein.

While the wind didn’t deliver the full program today, the forecast looks promising for the coming days. With a strong international field and multiple disciplines yet to be contested, the battle for the European crown is only just beginning.

Racing resumes tomorrow, with more action expected.

    100N bleiben 100N
